Padmasambhava, Avalokiteshvara and Amitabha

Meditating

 This is a painting of an early evening meditation where I found myself in a vast cavern of unknowing filled with a mass of subtle energies, 

the whirling thoughts and remnants of past actions and connections

permeated by the blessings of the bodhisattvas, 

transparent, insubstantial and permeable to all that arises and passes. 

In the words of the great shaman guru Padmasambhava, "I do not know, I do not have, I do not understand." . 

The certainties of life, the certainties of youth, are in the past.

A variation on one of my most popular Buddha images 

Avalokitesvara Variations

Here are a set of variations using the traditional iconography for the four armed form of Avalokitesvara.  He holds the wish fulfilling jewel or cintamani, a mala or rosary and a lotus.   The first picture is a gouache commission painted in 1998

The other images were created on my iPad using a photograph of the gouache as a starting point. The apps I used were Brushes and Waterlogue. I am really enjoying exploring the possibilities of this touchsreen technology.

Here is a wee painting from my meditation diary in 1988.
It is a very small picture of a cosmos which is a daisy like flower.
