Lacecap Hydrangea in Blue Vase

I am continuing to learn how to make digital sketches on the iPad. This was completed in haste, and is the better for having been done fast. Although drawn from observation, the imagination comes into play in creating the atmospheric background and the mood of the piece.

From the Archive 1992/7

This is a detail of a collagraph print I made in the nineties. It's posted now to mark the Enlightenment of the Buddha which is celebrated on the Full Moon of May.  The text is a haiku by the poet Ryokan.

Simhamukha Spring 2012

Here is a recent sketch  of the Lion headed dakini. The pictorial space with its ambiguities is an important element of the "otherness" of the image. The layering, and swirling marks are intended to give a sense of dance and movement.

First teapot digital finger painting
Inspired by seeing Hockney's Ipad sketches, I'm starting to get to grips with this new technique for making pictures and enjoying learning a new drawing skill.

Firebird takes wing.

A fleeting image appearing during contemplation of Fire in the Six Element practice. The drawing is a very quick and tiny sketch.  It is a much smaller picture than you are seeing on your screen.  I made it sitting in a tent in a Norfolk garden on Saturday.

Aviary of WIld Flying Thoughts

Today, reading Hillman, I came across an image he's taken from Plato of the rich and crazy mind as a wonderful aviary of wild flying thoughts.  Here are two pictures of wild flying thoughts.  Each image tells a story and is evocative of its own truths.
